There have been changes to pay and conditions for some apprentices covered by modern awards.
What are the new apprentice pay and conditions?
• The changes to apprentice pay and conditions are:
• increases to 1st and 2nd year rates for new apprentices
• adding adult apprentice rates for awards that don’t have them
• new competency-based wage progression rules
• adding school-based apprentice terms into awards that don’t have them
• changes to conditions of employment (eg. travel costs, training time, training fees and attendance at training).
Who’s covered?
The pay increases only affect apprentices that start an apprenticeship on or after 1 January 2014. Apprentices that started before this date aren’t covered (ie. their pay rates stay the same).
